Welcome to my practice. My name is Emma Dorrington and I am a registered counsellor with a private practice in Rondebosch. I provide both in-person and online services for adults and adolescents 12 years or older.

 

In my experience, counselling can provide a warm and safe environment for honest self-reflection. It is a space where you process difficult emotions and events, and also to explore new ways of managing and responding to these in a healthy way.

There are many different approaches to counselling and there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’. Everyone is different and some people will find some approaches more beneficial than others. Due to this, I try to work holistically and I use an integrative approach. Depending on your specific needs and reasons for seeking counselling, I will tailor my approach and draw on appropriate counselling skills and methods that will best support you.

A bit of my academic background: I completed my undergraduate degree at Stellenbosch University, earning a distinction for my psychology major. I then completed my B-Psych Equivalent degree at Cornerstone Institute with distinction. My Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)-accredited placement was done at Hope House in Tokai. My work there was focused on providing crisis interventions, trauma-informed counselling, psychoeducation, substance abuse counselling, and grief and loss counselling. I have since continued to volunteer at Hope House once a week. I have also worked in several schools providing school readiness assessments (ASB) for Grade 1 learners and subject choice assessments for high school learners. I completed my HPCSA Board Exam in 2021 and have since been registered with the HPCSA as a Registered Counsellor.
