Counselling for Teens
I offer counselling for teens 12 years and older.
Adolescence can be a challenging time for both teenagers and their parents. It is a period of significant emotional, social and neurological development, as young people begin moving from dependency toward greater independence. This transition can be exciting, but it can also bring anxiety, conflict, mood changes, identity questions and increased pressure from school, peers and the wider world.

While teenagers need space to develop autonomy, they also benefit from steady, attuned support from the adults around them. My role is to provide your teen with a confidential and supportive space of their own, while working appropriately with parents so that they feel informed and supported in the wider process.

My approach

The process usually begins with an intake session that starts with both parent and teen together. This provides space to explore concerns, gather relevant background information, and discuss how I work, including how confidentiality and communication with parents will be handled. After approximately 15–20 minutes together, your teen and I will continue the session on our own.

Following this, I meet individually with your teen. The early sessions focus on building rapport and establishing a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship, while gaining a deeper understanding of their emotional and relational world.

Parent feedback meetings can be arranged when needed (with your teen’s knowledge and consent). These focus on general themes and ways to offer support at home. Session content remains confidential unless there are safety concerns.

Ongoing counselling is tailored to your teen’s individual needs rather than following a fixed programme.

Intake, feedback sessions and individual counselling can take place in person at my practice in Rondebosch or online via Doxy.me.

Bookings
Free 15 minute introduction call
This is a brief 15-minute introductory call, which offers an opportunity to briefly discuss your concerns, ask questions, and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit.
It is not a therapy session, but a chance to explore next steps and see how I may be able to support your teen.
Teen intake session
This first intake session is usually done with both the teen and the parent. We explore concerns, gather relevant background information, and discuss how I work. After approximately 15–20 minutes together, your teen and I will continue the session on our own.

These sessions can either be at my practice in Rondebosch or online.
Please have a look and fill in the consent form before making a booking, and return it to me via email. Thank you!
